Developed for students in Grade 7-12, Bamfield uses video conferencing to allow students to be observe live labs or interact with a live dive team. Teachers are encouraged to visit the site to read more on the resources provided and to learn how you can book a session.
Geneskool visited classrooms in Logan Lake and Kamloops this past May. They also set up a CSI-type mystery activity at TRU for high school students. They will likely visit again this year if teachers show interest. Check out our photos page and their site.
Community Science Celebration
*Please note that we are currently planning a Community Science Celebration for March 2010 in Williams Lake. Although Science World will be unable to provide school visits to those outside of Williams Lake, students and the general public from other communities are still invited to attend the free main Celebration.
Look into adopting a local wetland or creating one as an outdoor classroom.
The Centre is located in Kamloops and offers free admission to classes in ANY school district. The current program format allows visitors a period of time to experiment on their own at any of 120 plus hands-on stations located in two classrooms. A third room is used for demonstrations while the fourth room is used for demonstrations and serves as a basic teaching laboratory with capacity for 32 visitors.
Our staff will share with students key ecological concepts and information, identify stewardship actions and ideas, and lead students through a combination of games, slide shows, stories, mapping activities, and hands-on exercises. Younger grades will participate in station-centred, sensory-based activities. Older grades will be challenged to think critically about ideas and issues, and identify ways they can lessen their impact on the planet. Program offered by suggested donation.
